Episode #4: In this STATE OF MIND episode Debra Sloss, LMFT is joined by Toni Crossen, LMFT and  Denise Leto, former women’s self-defense instructors to talk about how learning to protect yourself supports mental health and wellness. In recent months our country has erupted in conversation, bringing sexual assault to the forefront. Denise and Toni share personal stories of women who were able to avert attack, and how through effective training women can learn violence prevention techniques and how to enhance their personal safety. Recent research shows that 80% of teen sexual assault victims experience mental health problems persisting months and even years after the event. Over the more than 20 years that Toni & Denise taught women and trained instructors, they saw women processing past trauma, becoming freed up from prior symptoms and becoming more empowered and confident in all areas of their lives. Toni and Denise share their experiences and guidance about what to look for in a good self-defense program as well as community resources.
