Episode #11: In this STATE OF MIND episode, Debra Sloss is joined by Adult Children of Alcoholics (ACA) Program participants Bill Trimpy and Birch Curry. They discuss their childhoods in dysfunctional families and their healing journeys. Although their early experiences left lasting impacts, Bill and Birch have found relief and growth in the 12-step ACA & Dysfunctional Families Programs. There, they also serve as sponsors, who support and guide newcomers. Bill shares the impact of not feeling understood or supported by anyone in his family; he felt lost and unanchored during young adulthood. He then pursued various paths to healing and, in recent years, has been finding community, support, and recovery through the ACA program. Birch shares his difficult childhood experiences as well and discusses how the ACA program is helping him heal, improve relationships with others, and experience greater joy and freedom. Birch helps us understand the ACA program and how it works for participants.
