Talk of the Bay on Tuesday, December 15, 2020 features Lori Butterworth, the Founder and Executive Director of Jacob’s Heart: Children’s Cancer Support Services, a Santa Cruz non-profit that provides family-centered care that addresses the emotional, practical and financial struggles for families of severely ill children and teens during treatment.

If you have ever wondered what you could do alleviate suffering or change a  societal problem but were overwhelmed by the prospect, perhaps daunted by a sense of smallness or insufficiency, this guest is here to shine a light on can be possible when we honor the heart’s desire to reach out, connect, and do what’s needed to transform suffering into meaning. Lori Butterworth, has founded two non-profits dedicated to improving care for families of seriously ill and dying children. One, many are familiar with: Jacob’s Heart, Children’s Cancer Support Services–the other is The Children’s Hospice and Palliative Care Coalition of California.

On this show we cover, not only the What, How and Why of these exceptional organizations, but also the inspiring back story of how they began, how this one woman followed her heart and inspired others to join in through empowered love to ground and continuously innovate around delivering love, care, and protection to those facing loss and disruption in the face of critical pediatric illness.
