Ron Self, 55, worked in Special Operations in the USMC for 10 years before finding himself serving 23 years in prison. Ron founded Veterans Healing Veterans from the Inside Out in 2012 while in San Quentin.
Veterans Healing Veterans has received three grants in the last 3 years from California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) to replicate the program at San Quentin. The success of VHV is largely due to prisoners reporting to their psychologists that they get more from VHV than they do from CDCR medical.
Veterans Healing Veterans is directly responsible for creation of the veterans yard model at CTF, which will be the central hub.
Ron Self is a highly-decorated veteran who earned a Ph.D. in Behavioral Studies from Quantico while in the Marines. Ron now lives in Monterey, CA. His TEDx talk, “How to End Veteran Suicide”, is here:
