What if a bunch of RVs suddenly arrived in your neighbor’s yard?  They weren’t friends, but folks who rented out camping space on HipCamp.com. In Big Sur, residents in tiny areas like Palo Colorado Canyon were upset to find their long-time neighbor using his land as a campground to the public. He was cited for code violations and shut down, but other areas in Santa Cruz County have the same types of issues cropping up. County governments are struggling to figure out how to regulate this type of free enterprise, sharing economy disruption similar to the way Air BnB disrupted the idea of vacation rentals and who gets to be in residential areas.
