Jojo Mehta co-founded Stop Ecocide alongside barrister and legal pioneer the late Polly Higgins, to support the establishment of ecocide as a crime at the International Criminal Court.

As Co-Founder, Executive Director and key spokesperson of Stop Ecocide International, Jojo has overseen the remarkable growth of the movement while coordinating between legal developments, diplomatic traction and public narrative.

Stop Ecocide International leads a global coalition of national campaigns, businesses, NGOs, lawyers, politicians and indigenous groups who are working to criminalise ecocide at regional, national and institutional legislatures.

Stop Ecocide’s network includes more than 40 national affiliate groups, and among their registered supporters are Pope Francis, Greta Thunberg, Paul McCartney and UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.

Stop Ecocide International aims to activate its network of supporters and affiliate groups to campaign for the introduction of ecocide legislation at the International Criminal Court. The ICC is the only global mechanism which directly accesses the existing criminal justice systems of its 123 member states.
