Episode #32: The effects of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (commonly called OCD), go way beyond making someone a neat freak. In this anxiety disorder, obsessional thoughts and compulsive behaviors take over people’s lives. It consumes hours of their days, restricts their lives, and increases isolation and suffering. OCD affects approximately 1 in 40 adults and 1 in 100 children in the U.S and is equally common among men and women. Educator and musician, Lisa Taylor describes how her symptoms emerged in childhood and changed as she grew up, and she tells us about the practices and treatments that have enabled her to live a productive and fulfilling life. Lisa shares how she maintains her wellness through a combination of treatment approaches, including Exposure Response Prevention (ERP) Therapy. Psychologist and anxiety specialist Dr. Dufford discusses the symptoms and impact of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and shares information about some of the evidence-based treatment approaches available including an overview of how ERP therapy works. This episode features a moving, original song written and performed by our guest Lisa Taylor about her experience of living with OCD.
