On Talk of the Bay, host Christine Barrington welcomes co-host Suki Wessling to the other side of the mic in her role as a member of the Jazz Society of Santa Cruz County. This year, the Jazz Society was awarded a CARD Grant from the City of Santa Cruz. These grants were awarded to organizations working to revitalize Santa Cruz after the pandemic downturn. This conversation with board members Kathy Blackburn and Ken Koenig covers the long history of jazz in Santa Cruz, the birth of the Jazz Society, how the Jazz Society made it through the pandemic, and the rebirth of the Backbeat Jam Sessions that welcome players of any age and any level of achievement.
