June is Pride month across the nation and Santa Cruz set off the celebrations with their joyous parade on June 2. KSQD was there and captured the voices and spirit of one of longest-running Pride parades in the state. On this day people came in all their playful finest to line up and walk in solidarity with the LGBTQI+ community standing for the right to be one’s authentic self, feel accepted, safe, and an integral part of the community in which they live–a reality that is sadly becoming harder in certain parts of the country but is a dream that shines bright throughout the month of June in Santa Cruz county.
