We had an All Caller show with a technical Mercury-retrograde twist… no phones! By the end of the hour Max had figured out that I could hold a phone to the microphone so we did speak to three callers in the last 20 minutes of the show.
To lead off the show, I spoke about the various things that I do to keep in balance and to have compassion for those even if I don’t agree with their beliefs. I spoke about needs vs strategies in that we all have the same needs but different strategies to get them met.
Here are some of the quotes I shared during the show:
Your vision will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Without, everything seems discordant; only within does it coalesce into unity. Who looks outside dreams; who looks inside awakes. – Carl Jung
The shoe that fits one person pinches another; there is no recipe for living that suits all cases. Each of us carries his own life-form—an indeterminable form which cannot be superseded by any other. – Carl Jung
Knowing your own darkness is the best method for dealing with the darknesses of other people. – Carl Jung
Emotion is the chief source of all becoming-conscious. There can be no transforming of darkness into light and of apathy into movement without emotion. – Carl Jung
We choose hope over fear. We see the future not as something out of our control, but as something we can shape for the better through concerted and collective effort. – Barak Obama
Don’t ask yourself what the world needs; ask yourself what makes you come alive. And then go do that. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive. – Howard Thurman
We took a call from Lucille who reminded me to be patient with the technical difficulties which were probably enhanced by the combination of Mercury retrograde, the full moon and the thinness of the veil on Halloween.
We also heard from Ray who shared a dream-inspired poem / song that he wrote about connecting with his inner child. Here is the poem:
A little boy came to me last night
When I saw him he began to cry
His freckled face rested in his hands
I felt like joining him, but I’m a man
I have to be strong, not show how I feel
Even if my strength is a lie
This frightened child looks to me for hope
There are questions in his eyes
I wonder if I have answers
That will satisfy his soul
I can’t pacify with platitudes
A child who knows how to fly
So I ask him the reason tears are flowing
Though I’m secretly afraid to know why
“So many things disturb me, brother
Like how poorly people treat one another
And why do I feel so alone on Earth
When we’re all children of the open sky?”
-chorus-
We’re all children of the open sky
Where eagles soar and angels fly
Where we humans make GOD cry
…….Don’t ask me why
I have to come to you in dreams
For even though I can not die
I’ve been beaten and battered, mocked and ridiculed
Merely for speaking the truth
So I approach humans more cautiously now
Once is enough to be crucified
And I come to you as your inner child
Because that’s where true wisdom lies
In the tears and laughter of the innocents
Before our psyche is filled with dents
From blows thrown by those who refuse to repent
And close their ears to their children’s cries
Once I was a child filled with nothing but joy
I had nothing to confirm or deny
My inner child was one with my little boy
‘Til I was introduced to the concept of war
Where I found that arms are really for
Holding those we love as they die
-chorus-
But we’re all children of the open sky
Where all hearts are open and we breathe a sigh
As we learn to stop making GOD cry
And maybe find out why
If that’s how grown-ups act, I’ll remain a child
Give me the life that’s free and wild
So wrap me in your arms and be my friend
Tell me you love me as our spirits blend
Let me know it’s real now, don’t pretend
That soon war forever comes to an end
And there’ll be no more reason to cry
Because we’re all the same children of the open sky.
-chorus-
Yeah, we’re all children of the open skies
Who came to Earth to help all beings rise
And dry the tears from GOD’s own eyes
Until She tells us why.
And finally we spoke to Christine Barrington of Talk of the Bay who talked about “Inner-activism”, how our inner work enhances the world around us. She shared with us a resource called Insight Timer which offers meditations, breathing practices and teachings which can help us to remain centered. She also talked about how humming soothes the vagus nerve. Christine, Jill Cody of Be Bold America and I will co-host an Election Day show from 3-6pm on November 3.
Show aired on October 31, 2020.
