In this episode of Talk of the Bay, hosts Meilin Obinata and Reggie Meisler dive into public records controversies in Atlanta and Santa Cruz in the world of cop cities popping up around the USA in the time after George Floyd protests. Our first guest, Joy Ramsingh, is representing the Atlanta Press Collective and the Lucy Parsons Lab in a case against the Atlanta Police Foundation, focused on records related to Atlanta 85 acre “Cop City” project for a law enforcement training center complete with a mock city. Our second guest was Ray Diaz of Santa Cruz Cop Watch which is suing the City of Santa Cruz and UC Santa Cruz for refusing public records requests. We also discussed the emails Santa Cruz Cop Watch produced from the City of Santa Cruz as the result of a public records request regarding a planned training center.
