Dr. Ann Lopez, founder of the Center for Farmworker Families, is no stranger to the effects of pesticides. In her work with migrant farmworker families, she sees children with high cancer rates and other serious health problems. A new initiative, the Campaign for Organic and Regenerative Agriculture proposes a future where there are no pesticides used in the region of the Pajaro Valley. Rachel is host of Talk of the Bay and Board Chair of KSQD. She is the producer of radio documentaries such as Southern Songbirds: The Women of Early Country and Old Time Music, The Boomtown Chronicles, and Pastures of Plenty, a History of California Farmworkers. She teaches journalism at Cabrillo College in Aptos. She is a recipient of a Peabody award for excellence in journalism.

I want a thank a farmworker sticker for my car. My mother had an accident at work as a farmworker and that cut her work career short -25 years.

She was a packer on a moving lettuce packing machine and was airlifted to a hospital- her workers comp case went on for 13 years- for over one year she got NO medical from the insurance company.

When the medication “botox” for migraines was expensive- the attorneys went back to court and denied the approval of that medication prescribed by a highly respected neurologist

Thank you for your work and yes I call it modern day slavery and the poverty is crushingly painful – more for children that are living at 400% poverty and not attaining the American dream, they leave school early to help put food on their tables.
