On Talk of the Bay Monday, November 27 at 5:30: Join host Christine Barrington with guests Melissa Kreisa, Rose Sellery and Donna Mikes to learn about Broadsides a curated show from MK Contemporary Art, which brings together diverse voices from the Morton Marcus Community of Poets and pairs their writings with highly accomplished local and regional visual artists. This unique collaboration offers a chance to explore the profound connections between art and poetry. The exhibition was thoughtfully curated by local talents Donna Mekis and Rose Sellery, with the broadside design crafted by Gary Young, Director of the Cowell Press at UC Santa Cruz.

Enjoy Broadsides now through January 13, 2204. First Fridays, December 1 & January 5, 2024.

Broadsides is made possible through the generous support of The Humanities Institute, and Special Collections & Archives at UC Santa Cruz; Mark Ong and Side By Side Studios; and Community Printers of Santa Cruz.

Melissa Kreisa is an artist who stepped forward to fill a gaping hole in the downtown arts scene by opening a 4,600 square foot gallery near the Museum of Art & History on Front Street. It is called MK Contemporary Art and it is where Broadsides is taking place. On top of invigorating the local arts scene with this exhibition space,  Melissa has also taken on leadership of the Santa Cruz Artist Assistance Relief Fund, which this exhibit will benefit.

Rose Sellery is an artist of incredible range and wit, crossing multiple disciplines from sculpture and conceptual garments to photomontage. She is the co-director of Pivot: The Art of Fashion. She has curated art exhibits and fashion events around California and has exhibited artwork nationally and internationally.

Donna Mekis is a co-author of, “Blossoms Into Gold: The Croatians in the Pajaro Valley,” published by Capitola Books in 2009.
