Barney Wiget: How a Personal Crisis Changed a Pastor’s Heart

Much of the recent public discussions about religion often focuses exclusively on political power and right-wing social movements. However, these conversations often overlook voices of faith who articulate a different vision than is often portrayed in the media. Barney Wiget is a retired pastor and author whose latest book, “What on Earth,” explores the social implications of Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount–probably the most famous and well-studied discourse in history. In our conversation we discuss Jesus’ ethics in the sermon and how they can, and do, speak to the unique time we are in in our country.
