Actors’ Theatre presents Rod Serling’s The Obsolete Man, airing March 14 at 9 PM on KSQD 90.7 FM
Serling’s short play may have been written 60 years ago, but its characters and themes resonate strongly with today’s audiences. The story centers around Romney Wordsworth, a librarian who is pronounced “obsolete” and sentenced to death by a Chancellor of an unnamed fascist state. Wordsworth, though powerless to The State, ends up challenging The Chancellor in a devastating way.
Actors’ Theatre radio performance features Frank Widman as Romney Wordsworth, Martin Kachuk as The Chancellor and Jaye Wolff as The Secretary/Narrator. Directed by Joyce Michaelson, the listening audience is invited to join Michaelson and the actors after the performance for a discussion about the play’s themes. Audience members are encouraged to call in with questions and comments.
