On Good News Santa Cruz Thursday, December 3, 2020, Pauline Seales and guest Gillian Greensite discussed the plans recently approved by the Santa Cruz City Council to radically transform the Santa Cruz Wharf.
Gillian is a member of the Santa Cruz citizen action group “Don’t Morph the Wharf!”. This group made suggestions to lessen the impacts of the Wharf Master Plan including getting rid of the proposed Landmark Building and the Western Walkway and capping the heights of other new buildings at 30 feet. Unfortunately all of this was ignored by the staff and council voted to approve the full project Nov 24th, 2020.
This is a screen shot of the Landmark Building proposed for the south end of the Wharf. Taken from the Wharf Master Plan. The umbrellas are where the current 5 sea lion viewing holes are located. Notice no-one fishing.
If you would like to read more about the position of Don’t Morph the Wharf read Gillian’s article from Bratton Online. and there is more information here. If you’d like to contact Gillian and discuss possible future action you can email her at gilliangreensite@gmail.com
