The all-female sailing expedition around the world to raise awareness about ocean pollution will be underway for two years. Marine biologist Rikki Erikson, one of the leaders of the first legs of the journey, tells the harrowing, but exciting story of their sail with two hurricanes at their back and twenty-foot seas. Rikki saw whales and birds and some fish with plastic in their stomachs. She talks about the need to drastically reduce our dependence on disposable plastic products and other solutions to the problem of microplastics in our oceans.
