Ami Chen Mills speaks with author Stephen Zunes about the history of the region: Israel-Palestine. After many highly emotional interviews on the Israel-Gaza war and ongoing massacres, this podcast is a factual and deep dive into the regional context of the current situation, what a Harris Administration might do and what a Trump Administration might do about this conflagration and war that threatens to expand daily.
We include a news update about California central coast Congressional representative, Jimmy Panetta and how he has responded or not to his constituents on this issue, including a brief report from Héctor Marin, who ran for city council this past spring and who describes his view as a protestor at a recent Bookshop Santa Cruz event where Panetta and others were confronted for their inaction on the mass death in Gaza.
Stephen Zunes is founder of the Middle Eastern Studies program at University of San Francisco and author of Tinderbox: US Middle East Policy and the Roots of Terrorism, as well as several other books and a wide range of articles, including a very recent article for The Progressive on what a Harris-Walz administration might do about the ongoing war in Israel, the escalation of the war and a long-term solution.
Recognized as one the country’s leading scholars of U.S. Middle East policy and of strategic nonviolent action, Professor Zunes serves as senior policy analyst for the Foreign Policy in Focus project of the Institute for Policy Studies, an associate editor of Peace Review and, until recently, was a contributing editor to Tikkun.
In the midst of much speculation on what Harris might do, and after so many highly (and understandably) emotional interviews, it was time for a cool hard look at the facts on the ground.
