Tune in at 12 am, November 3rd, and hear the Gypsy Scholar present part 2 of his Orphic Essay-with-Soundtrack series for the Celtic/Neopagan cross-quarter festival of Samhain on the Celtic Wheel of the Year, which is entitled “Samhain & Halloween.” It is traditionally celebrated on the eve of November 1st or October 31st (our All Hallows Eve or Halloween), known as the “Fixed Date. However, it’s also celebrated on November 6th or 7th, known as “True Samhain,” because this calendar date matches the accurate astrological and astronomical  time of the year. In this second installment of the musical essay the GS will begin by continuing to examine the Celtic historical background to Halloween, then move on to again discuss the relationship of the pagan festival of Samhain to the Catholic holy days of All Saints Day (Nov. 1), All Souls Day (Nov. 2), which were at one time all part of what was called “All Hallows Eve,” and finally the Mexican Day of the Dead (celebrated anywhere from Oct. 31, to Nov. 1-2, to Nov. 6). After doing so, the GS will go deeper into the nature of Samhain night and its magic and mysteries from a variety of perspectives.

Be sure to check out the fantabulous “Samhain” webpage that is dedicated to this musical essay series, which is loaded with images, memes, and supplemental information concerning the people, places and things discussed in the musical essay–so listeners can literally “see what I mean (or meme).” It is accessed at revradiotowerofsong.com
