Monday on Talk of the Bay at 5pm: For those who love to hike, Santa Cruz County is a dream come true with nearly a dozen State Parks. There are hundreds of miles of trails to enjoy and that number is continually growing, thanks in part to Santa Cruz Mountain Trails Stewardship, who have been creating and maintaining local world class trails responsibly, sustainably and collectively since 1997.
They are behind popular trails at Soquel Demonstration State Forest, Wilder Ranch State Park, and Pogonip, and bring together thousands of volunteers for trail work events each year.
You might recognize some of the trails and pump tracks they’ve built: Flow Trail, Sawpit Trail reroute, Emma McCrary Trail, West Engelsmans reroute, Enchanted Loop reroute, Ramsay Park Pump Track, Harvey West Pump Track, Chanticleer Pump Track, Gloria Jean Tate Pump Track, and the Westside Pump Track.
Executive Director, Matt De Young, joins the show to discuss the state of local trails and how you can be a part of their growing mission. Join us and learn how their community-driven efforts are putting Santa Cruz on the map to becoming the model for sustainable trails systems.
