Fred Keeley is a longtime resident of Santa Cruz County. He began his public service career as chief of staff for former Assembly Member and Congress Member Sam Farr. Fred was elected to two 4-year terms on the Santa Cruz County board of supervisors, 10 years as elected County Treasurer, and three terms in the California Assembly. While in the Assembly, Fred authored the Marine Life Management Act, the Marine Life Protection Act, the California Ocean Science Trust Act, and the two largest voter-approved coastal, parks, and environmental protection bonds in the nation’s history. Fred currently teaches in the graduate program of public administration at San Jose State University. He also co-teaches a class at Santa Clara law school with former Defense Secretary Leon Panetta. Fred is also a founding board member of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary Foundation.
