On Earthday, April 22nd, dozens of members of the global group Extinction Rebellion staged a die-in demonstration event on Pacific Avenue in downtown Santa Cruz. Members dressed as extinct or endangered species lay on the sidewalk for an hour, talking to passersby about why they feel a sense or urgency bording on desperation to turn the tide on human-induced climate change. KSQD’s Jean Kratzer was there to talk to some of the participants about why they took the day off to protest.
