On Talk of the Bay, Ellen Primack, Executive Director of the Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music, joins host Suki Wessling to talk about the challenges of pandemic-era music programming and the amazing work that was done to bring together this year’s virtual festival. This world-famous festival of modern orchestral works usually brings top-notch musicians and composers to Santa Cruz. This year, the Festival has created a virtual presentation featuring new music along with video artistry and dance choreographed for the festival. The conversation includes choreographer Molly Katzman, whose work is paired with composer Gabriela Lena Frank’s music inspired by the California wildfires, and Gene Scheer, librettist for INTONATIONS: Songs from the Violins of Hope, composed by Jake Heggie.
