Dear friends of KSQD,
You may have heard about attacks on public broadcasters and the closing of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) as of December 31st. Funds from CPB supported national networks like PBS and NPR, but also the emergency broadcast system, a fundamental lifeline that is ever more needed in times of extreme weather. CPB also helped pay for music licensing for small stations like KSQD, and this may hit our budget significantly. We passionately want to continue bringing you our unique music programs
We must defend, not defund community broadcasting. Please make your sustaining donation today to ensure the music will play on and the local and national alternative progressive news keeps on coming. We truly would not be here without you — whether you count yourself as a volunteer, donor, sponsor, listener or all four.
As big media corporations like CBS increasingly bend to government demands and lay off news staff, local independent media outlets like KSQD become even more essential to staying informed.
When Jill lost her house during the CZU fire, she felt isolated and disconnected from her community. Then one evening, she tuned into our “Talk of the Bay” program and heard neighbors discussing local housing opportunities and support resources. That day, Jill found both practical help and something equally valuable – a reminder that she wasn’t alone.
This is the power of local media. This is the power of K-Squid.
Every day, our community radio station amplifies voices that might otherwise go unheard. We connect neighbors who may never meet face-to-face but share the same challenges, hopes, and love for our region.
Your support makes these connections possible. When you give to K-Squid, you’re not just funding a radio station – you’re strengthening the fabric of our community.
Will you make a gift today to ensure these vital community connections continue?
- $50 provides one hour of local programming that connects neighbors like Jill
- $120 supports equipment maintenance to keep community voices on air
- $250 helps train new volunteer broadcasters to share diverse perspectives
The stories we share matter. They inform, inspire, and remind us we belong to something larger than ourselves. In a world of increasing isolation, KSQD creates the shared experiences that build community.
Your donation today ensures we can continue amplifying local voices tomorrow.
With gratitude,
Rachel Goodman
