Tune in at 12 a.m., Monday, December 9th, and hear the Gypsy Scholar present the Orphic Essay-with-Soundtrack entitled, “The Winter Blues & Hung Upside Down or Falling Apart: A Musical Prescription for SAD.” This musical essay will explore the psychological malady known as “Seasonal Effective Disorder” (SAD). However it will diverge from the clinical viewpoint and its conventional wisdom about this seasonal disorder and instead present a psycho-mythological approach that evokes an entirely new way–a novel way–of thinking (with the help of the poetics of the melancholoy blues) about SAD, one which would reveal the paradoxical positive side of the soul’s (the psyche’s) mythic pathologizing (“Falling Apart”) during the winter season. In doing so, the GS will be offering his own alternative (musical) prescription for SAD.
