This show broadcast on Dec, 4, 2023, Day Four of the COP28, otherwise known as the Conference of the Parties and increasingly known by some as the global climate COP OUT.
This year, the President of this UN-organized annual event on climate change, Sultan Al-Jabeer, is also CEO of the national energy company for the UAE … Indeed, the whole get up is being hosted in the United Arab Emirates, where reliance on fossil fuels, as in other Arab nations, is a predominant part of the national economy. What does this mean for the future of climate mitigation? Is there still hope for the COP? Is there still hope for the world?
How has the fossil fuel industry derailed efforts to save a liveable planet for humans and nearly all other species? How are they connected to authoritarianism worldwide? How do indigenous rights and sovereignty factor into climate mitigation?
We discuss all of this … and more on our program “Fueling Fascism” with our amazing guest, Amy Westervelt …
