You can’t get more local than a locally owned restaurant. Local restaurants serve local people. But where do local chefs get their food? How do they think about the source of their food and who they feed it to? On Talk of the Bay, host Suki Wessling welcomes three local chefs to talk about what it means to be local. Kevin Rodgers of Holey Roller Bagels is a self-described rogue bagel maker who has moved from organic farming into pop-up bagels and is opening a physical site soon. Lalita Kaewsawang is chef and owner of Hanloh Thai Food, a popup and catering business founded in 2017, which is now working toward becoming a brick and mortar restaurant. Katherine Stern’s new project, The Midway, opened in September 2020 as a pop up at The Santa Cruz County Farmers’ Market. In September 2021, The Midway moved to a new brick and mortar location at Bad Animal.

All three chefs experienced the disruption of the pandemic and reacted with creativity and an emphasis on serving the people in front of them. Listen in!
