Ami Chen interviews Alvin Dawkins, co-host of the spiritual-political Heart of America YouTube show with Ami, and author of the forthcoming memoir, From Prison to Purpose. Dawkins was born in prison, then adopted and raised in the ugliness of Alabama’s Jim Crow segregation and apartheid, in the heart and center of the 1960s Civil Rights movement for voting, civil and human rights. Dawkins struggled with lifelong, severe, at times debilitating, depression. This led finally to a series of powerful spiritual experiences, healing and renewal. Alvin and Ami will address the ongoing voting rights struggle across the US and the recent GOP Gubernatorial victory in Virginia. Will Democrats lose the Black vote? Do they still deserve it?
