On Indigenous Peoples Day, host Suki Wessling welcomes University of California at Santa Cruz Professor Felicity Amaya Schaeffer to discuss how borders and technology affect the indigenous people who are enclosed, separated, and surveilled in our border regions. We explore Schaeffer’s research into the history of borders and the technology used to enforce them, as well as the mechanized future of border surveillance and enforcement. Schaeffer describes the everyday lives of Native Americans, split from their tribal members in Mexico, harassed and surveilled by the U.S. Border Patrol. Tune in for this fascinating discussion!
