Tune in at 12 AM, June 2nd and hear the Gypsy Scholar present the first installment of the Orphic Essay-with-Soundtrack series entitled, “May Day Carnivalesque.”
This first installment is a new but related musical essay series to the former “Beltane / May Day” musical essay series. It will begin where the 5th and last installment of that series left off in introducing the concept of “carnivalesque” that identifies a certain type of “transgressive” festival that can be classified under the category of “carnival,” such as that of May Day from the late medieval to the early modern period.
Be sure to check out the fantabulous “May Day Carnivalesque” webpage that’s dedicated to this musical essay series located on the Tower of Song website at revradiotowerofsong.com.
Update: The extended program for the #5 and final installment of the musical essay series (broadcast 5/26/25), “Beltane / May Day: A Holiday for Pagans & Workers,” is now available for listening on the “Archived Musical Essays” webpage, along with the corresponding playlist on the “Program Playlists” webpage, of the Tower of Song website.
