Where will the houseless sleep?
Talk of the Bay with Chris Krohn, Tuesday, October 4th
As the San Lorenzo Benchlands camp is being slowly emptied out by Santa Cruz city officials, the question remains, where will the houseless sleep? The city has identified and maintains a fraction of the housing needed for camp denizens, yet it continues on a course of cleaning out this now 3-year old camping area. Keith McHenry joins host Chris Krohn today on Talk of the Bay and offers his perspective on the past, present, and future of homelessness in the city and county of Santa Cruz. There are no easy solutions, but pushing campers out into the rest of the city to find accommodations where there are none seems pointless, bordering on cruel. Are there solutions in addressing our homeless conundrum?
Keith McHenry is a writer and co-founder of the global movement, Food Not Bombs, and he is also on the executive board member of the National Union of the Homeless.
Tune in today, Tuesday, October 4th, from 5-6 PM to Talk of the Bay on KSQD 90.7 and KSQD.org
