Making campus and community police departments accountable in Santa Cruz

A Conversation with Ayo Banjo

Talk of the Bay, Tuesday, February 15, 2022, 5-6 PM

on KSQD, 90.7 FM & KSQD.org

In honor of Black history month, we spend an entire hour with Ayo Banjo. He is the past president of the UCSC undergraduate student body, and he now works to combine innovative technologies and data to social justice work, giving human rights advocates access to advanced data to create changes in policies aimed at reducing homelessness, combatting redlined racial discrimination, and empowering young professionals of color to build a culture of leadership and opportunity in their community. He is also the past president of the NAACP-UCSC and a graduate of the Politics Department.

Banjo is a sharp critic of the police and a staunch Black Lives Matter protester. Our discussion will encompass Ayo Banjo’s work with the Black community here in Santa Cruz and his unrelenting quest to make the campus and community police departments accountable to the public through a system of metrics. His senior thesis is titled: “The Future of Policing: Voter Turnout as a Metric for Determining the Democratic Legitimacy of Public Safety Models.” Join Chris Krohn this Tues at 5p for a one-on-one interview with one of this community’s most dynamic and outspoken young voices, Ayo Banjo.
