Talk of the Bay, Tuesday, June 15, 5 PM: Political Report with Chris Krohn: Garage reading?
/

The Santa Cruz Library-garage issue has taken yet another turn. This past week the city announced they found a developer would build “up to 107 units” of affordable housing to go along with a 400-space parking garage and a library on Lot 4 where the Downtown Farmer’s Market sits. This would mean moving the library from a place it has been for 118 years to a place where many envision a central park for Santa Cruz. What would happen to the old library space? Does Santa Cruz need a 400-space garage given that the seas are rising as a result of climate change? And is Santa Cruz in the throes of a greed-driven building boom and this project is some kind of municipal collateral damage? On Talk of the Bay today, former mayor Don Lane and Library Director Susan Nemitz go head to head with Downtown Commons Advocate, John Hall as well as a member of the Campaign for Sustainable Transportation. Join your host Chris Krohn on Talk of the Bay at 5 PM.
