From the House of the Dead by Leoš Janáček on KSQD’s Monday Night at the Opera, 7 to 10 p.m., Monday, May 12, 2024. The production of Janáček’s final opera is led by Sir Charles Mackerras. Completing the program are excerpts from two other prisoner-themed operas Beethoven’s Fidelio and Puccini’s Tosca. The story is based on a novel by Dostoyevski and features an ensemble cast with varying stories as to how they find themselves in prison. The opera features some of Leoš Janáček’s finest and most dramatic music. Joe Truskot is host.
