Who we Are:

KSQD is a noncommercial, community radio station operated by the nonprofit organization, Natural Bridges Media. We have a tiny paid staff, a 10-person board of directors, and 130 volunteers. KSQD has a mission to build community through quality broadcasts, podcasts, training programs and community events. We celebrate the uniqueness of our region through news, arts, and culturally diverse programming. KSQD went on the air in 2019 and will soon reach over 600,000 potential listeners on 90.7FM, 89.7 FM and 89.5FM. We seek an enthusiastic and reliable person for the essential position of Operations Assistant to ensure the quality of our broadcast audio improves constantly.  This is a great opportunity to get in on the ground floor of a growing community nonprofit with a big vision.

The Position: Operations Assistant, ½ time, flexible hours. 

The Operations Assistant is responsible for overseeing and maintaining all audio content in KSQD’s on-air and archived computer systems, including station IDs, underwriting spots, and syndicated programs. An important function of this position is quality control of recorded spots and other on-air submitted or syndicated content. Other duties include assisting and training volunteers in the creation of audio content, basic podcasting skills, and ensuring all content is updated and usable by hosts. This position also oversees our social media presence on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.

Qualifications: 

Are you skilled in sound recording and digital editing?  You must be computer savvy. Familiarity with operating broadcast equipment is a huge plus, or being a quick study in using hardware and software technology.  We’re looking for someone who is deadline driven, self-motivated and organized. You should also be an active participant in social media and love radio as a medium.  A plus would be strong writing skills that can be adapted to broadcast conventions.

This half-time job in Santa Cruz will require being in the studio most weekdays and available for weekends and emergency calls, yet offers a flexible schedule with some remote work.
