Santa Cruz County and Monterey counties are on the state’s Covid Watch List. In addition to statewide closures of bars, indoor dining, and entertainment venues, our counties do not allow indoor operation of hair salons and barbers, fitness centers, and places of worship.

Local schools will begin with distance learning only, and will not have the option to open classrooms until state guidelines are met. Based on current projections, central coast schools will likely NOT re-open for in-person instruction prior to January 2021.

As of Saturday, Santa Cruz County reports more than 850 active cases. Monterey County has almost 1900 active cases.

More than 400 people have required hospitalization in the 2 counties, and 41 have died.
