Join “In The Garden” host Joe Truskot on Saturday, July 25, 2020, 9 to 9:30 a.m. for a discussion with long time executive chef Brandon Miller. Most recently, Miller worked at Carmel’s il Grillo restaurant which is currently closed due to the Covid-19 situation. However, the industrious Miller has been sharpening his knives and his horticultural skills. He’ll talk about the transformation from being in the kitchen full-time to being in the garden part-time and working hard to produce home-grown vegetables while still cooking up a storm. We’ll also talk about the consequences of Covid-19 and the personnel who once worked at so many of our boutique restaurants.

We’ll discuss some simple ways to prepare your garden produce which will both astonish your friends and family and adhere to safe practices to keep nutrient values high. We’ll talk about some of the herbs that should always be found in your garden and ways to use them to enhance your morning eggs, your noontime salads, and your evening roasts. Think parsley, chives, basil, cilantro, rosemary, and thyme; but learn about tarragon, chervil, sorrel, and more.

Chef Brandon Miller discovered the joy of home gardening and is now serving up his fresh organic produce in interesting and tasty ways. We’ll talk about many of the mistakes that home gardeners make in their backyard gardens and in their kitchens. He has even grown flowers to decorate the restaurant’s tables and has learned which ones last longer in a vase. All programs are available in the KSQD archives after they air.
