Sometimes it feels like UC Santa Cruz is up there on the hill, separated from the community…except on the last Wednesday of the month. That’s when UC scientists come to town for “Science on Tap,” welcoming one and all to accessible talks about cutting edge science research happening now at a university very near you.

Host Suki Wessling welcomes organizers Megan Durham, Hannah Lusk, and Nick Forino to talk about the series past and present. We’re also joined by upcoming lecturer Prof. Raja GuhaThakurta, Department Chair of Astronomy and Astrophysics. Our discussion ranges from how to bring scientific concepts to a non-science-oriented audience, how to do outreach to underserved communities and use education to nurture new scientists, and how to combat misinformation. According to Prof. GuhaThakurta “we’re drowning in bad information—and I’d rather be thirsty than drown.”

But never fear, there’s more science coming your way. According to Prof. GuhaThakurta, “I’m starting to think that science ought to be a spectator sport.”

Listen in!
